Greetings on this lovely Sunday. Get out early today before the rains come and make
going out more difficult. Enjoy doing something different today, maybe calling someone
you’ve lost touch with, invite them for coffee!
As I sit looking out my window, I can almost feel the sunshine on my shoulders and a
breeze of morning air caress my bare feet. I am grateful that I can behold the
magnificence of Nature’s beauty all around me. We have about 200 days left of 2015!
I know that it seems we just began this year but the truth is time goes quickly and it
is important to take stock of where we are and what we hope to accomplish in the next
few months.
Yesterday the Costa Rican Women’s Soccer team played against South Korea in the
2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. Our team, making its debut, was projected
to be the last-place finisher in Group E which includes Spain, South Korea and Brazil.
Instead our talented players tied Spain 1-1 and South Korea 2-2! It was very exciting
to watch yesterday’s match on this stage and see how time and again our players
fought back. We don’t know what will happen when we face Brazil, giants of women’s
soccer, but our team has already succeeded in changing the narrative and expectations
placed on them in the beginning.
Although the final outcome will be important, it is really only part of the story. The
rest of the story has to do with the passion, perseverance and drive of the women who
have had to overcome many challenges to pursue their dreams of leaving a legacy.
The sacrifices they make to train reflect their desire to live with purpose and meaning.
These women inspire me and remind me how important it is to continue to face each
day with optimism, responsibility and endurance.
Have a wonderful day and a terrific week, Marietta
