Greetings on a lovely Sunday, the first one in December! Take some
deep breaths while you look around at the beauty that surrounds you. Go
outside early today and enjoy all the gifts Nature bestows on us. We are
beginning the countdown to 2019! I think you will agree with me that the
year has gone very quickly. Make the most of the remainder of 2018.
I went to my mother’s 11th month anniversary mass yesterday evening.
The priest’s sermon served as a reminder that the Christmas season has
really just begun even though many Costa Rican families have had their
decorations on display for several weeks. Father Vinicio’s words were
full of optimism and advice that the focus of the season should center on
our spiritual growth rather than material gift giving.
In addition to being an hour to remember the people who have completed
their cycle on earth, the mass also honored a couple who was celebrating
their 40th wedding anniversary. It was lovely to be part of their renewal of
vows, surrounded by their offspring and many friends and family. Their
relationship has stood the test of time and no doubt has included laughter,
fun, and respect for each other. Here’s to at least another 40 years for them!
The next few weeks will have us welcoming the December breezes. Our
town will be busy with tree lightings and all the activities that go with that.
It is a joyous time of the year and I hope all of us will turn out to enjoy the
opportunities to mix and mingle with people we don’t see during the year.
The many selfless acts I witness all year long makes me proud to belong to
a town that strives to bring hope, joy and prosperity to all!
Have a terrific Sunday and a great week, Marietta
