Being a Local Tourist

Dear Friends,

Greetings on a Sunday morning that brings us that much closer to our
celebrations with our family, friends and pets. Get out early today to
enjoy all the decorations in your neighborhood so that you can get your
body moving and ready for whatever is on your list of things to do today.

We are getting ready for the arrival of our daughter later this week. This
is her favorite time of the year and whenever a December breeze brushes
past me, I remember her anticipation for the day when we would finally
decorate our Christmas tree. I enjoyed watching her because it prompted
me get into the real spirit of the season: optimism, generosity and love
for humankind.

I look forward to this festive season because I have much to celebrate.
As we get busy with shopping, decorating and enjoying making all the
foods that come with the holidays, we also need to focus our attention
on the realities of the world around us. There are many ways in which
we can share the bounty that is ours with others who, for many reasons,
may not be so fortunate.

Last Friday, I went to the central marketplace of Atenas. I had not gone
there for many months except to pick up the odd lunch. I was impressed
by the cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere at the shops that are clearly
in compliance with health regulations but also going the extra mile to
make their locales attractive and their products diverse and plentiful. It is
a great time to be a tourist in our own backyard!

Have a wonderful day and a terrific, productive week, Marietta
